Specifically, I will be leaving reaching Kyoto around 12pm on 12th Jan and leaving Kyoto on the morning of 14th Jan Therefore, there is only 1 5 days of exploring in Kyoto I would love to do Arashiyama bamboo forest and Fushimi Inari (red gates) on 13th Jan, which leaves me only 0 5 days for the rest my time in Kyoto

The small downside, I think, is that to get anywhere else often requires getting back to Kyoto Station which is an additional hop And I dunno what Airbnbs are like these days (heh, I'm probably overthinking any potential changes in the last year)

Kyoto is non negotiable for us and we have put 5 nights there but I’ve also put 2 nights for Osaka I’ve read a lot saying Osaka is fine to do as a day trip but I thought it would be nice just to spend a few nights there We were initially going to do USJ but decided against it so wanted to spend some time in Osaka Do you think it’s worth it? The alternative is to stay a week in Kyoto

5 days in Kyoto or 5 days in Kansai? For Kyoto itself, I think 5 days is a reasonable amount of time, but if you're using it as a base for Kansai I would recommend at least a couple more for at least day trips to Nara, Osaka, and Himeji (possibly with Kobe) For Kyoto itself, I answered almost this exact question a couple of years ago in this post I do not recommend treating this like a check
