My wife wants to meet me nightly in our rv, so I would day hike the distance from one campsite to another I have heard of other couples doing this and wonder if there is a publication of near campsites and road access to the AT Thx DoDaMan

I am located in Bastian VA and know the area pretty well skip the Helveys shelter and when you cross 611 about 100 ft past the road there is a camp spot on your left or you can go a little further in and there are some nice flat spots , again on the left the distance from 612 TH to this camp is about 8 miles, the terrain is a roller coaster of small rises all the way along the ridge line

There are good level campsites on top of Frosty Mountain, 5 1 miles in (4 1 miles from the top of the Falls) There is supposed to be a spring there as well, but I've never found it There used to be a fire tower on Frosty -- you will see the concrete supports -- so I'm sure there is a spring somewhere nearby

Prince William Forest Park, south of Alexandria The car camping is pretty good, as mentioned mid-week is almost empty But what really shines is the Chopawamsic Backcountry area It's free to stay there and you have to hike in a short bit to the campsites There are six or eight designated sites on a loop trail
