- San Fran to Grand Canyon road trip!
The Grand Canyon South Rim is 790 miles, which is approximately 15-16 hours ONE WAY Definitely not doable in a weekend, unless it's a 4-day weekend (1 5 to drive there, 1 day to stay, 1 5 to drive back home)

Major attractions on your drive would include Glacier National Park, Yellowstone and Grand Tetons National Parks (another place where you might have to look around a bit for motels), Great Salt Lake, Dinosaur National Monument, Bryce Canyon National Park and Zion National Park

* Grand Canyon, 680 miles, 12 hours on the road This is a double-Yikes! due to the fascinating sights you'll be missing here No, you won't have time for Pike's Peak And you won't have time for all the other fascinating things on the way there like Mesa Verde, Durango, Leadville, Aspen, Vale, Million Dollar Highway, etc

If you decide on the Grand Canyon, add it before Las Vegas too I figure you will be driving approx 8,000 miles so your $1,500 for gas should be enough You're camping and staying with family and friends, so your $4,000 should be enough Utahtea 06-20-2011, 08:44 PM DonnaR57 Camping, even in the NP's, isn't free
- Summer Questions - roadtripamerica. com
The most popular national parks in the west such as Yellowstone, Yosemite, Zion, Arches, the Grand Canyon and others are completely booked for the entire summer by now
- Los Angeles - Las Vegas
A bit further afield -- about an hour south of Las Vegas is Grapevine Canyon -- with hundreds of petroglyphs that you can easily see from the trail There is a new parking area for Sloan Canyon (huge number of petroglyphs) about 15 minutes from the Strip It's about a five mile walk round trip to the parking lot
